Room Classics - Lady's Bedroom

1997 Atlanta Symphony Associates’ Decorators’ Show House

Inspired by a European excursion, the Lady’s bedroom incorporates elements of French, Monegasque, Italian, Swiss and English design while addressing the home’s architecture. The tole chandelier was found in a Paris flea market. Water gilt on the Italian chair frames recalls examples seen in Monaco’s Royal Palace and at the vernissage (opening night) of Basel’s European Fine Arts Festival. Upholstered walls were inspired by a Left Bank hotel. The printed linen was a Nina Campbell design available through Osborne & Little.

Other contributions include a cozy English Adam-style pine mantel, French-glazed millwork, draperies mounted outside the window to frame the bed and add volume. Chinese export porcelain, a lady’s necessities box and botanical screen add feminine touches. The combined elements form an American statement in lively, happy, soothing colors of yellow, green and blue. The ribbon-pattern carpet from Shaw Industries’ Expressive Design collection brings the design home again.
